On one level, and in everyday terms, thecommons.ai is a magazine. It gathers content topically and presents it to an audience. It could be called a magazine. But, that would ignore its purpose — to create a cooperative engagement with the language, impacts and responses of climate change. So, we use the word "medium" as a way to conjure "collective," "context," "capacity" — and as a place for all of us to build relationships with change through a common climate language.

For the Melting Men installations Azevedo places hundreds, sometimes thousands, of hand-cut ice figures in public places. The whole installation usually melts within the next 30 minutes, depending on local conditions, and draws a crowd to watch the unfolding events. Her art is climate-art.
Changing climate impacts our region faster than our current public media, knowledge and tech tools can inform us. There's a pressing need to accelerate integrated public knowledge. The Commons meets this need by providing public, cooperative climate knowledge-media tools for our coastal region.
